Description

Designed for those who have a foundation knowledge of German and wish to extend their command of it, this guide aims to help the student see German as the native speaker sees it, emphasizing contemporary practice and clarifying the considerable differences between the written and the spoken language. Matters such as declension, conjugation, and pronunciation are discussed according to current usage, and with account taken of regional differences. One section is devoted to point of vocabulary of special interest to the English-speaking reader. The largest section, on syntax, illustrates all the salient features in the construction of sentences, highlighting those aspects in which German is unlike English.
