Description
Part II of the Selected Works of Ivan Georgievich Petrowsky, contains his major papers on second order Partial differential equations, systems of ordinary. Differential equations, the theory, of Probability, the theory of functions, and the calculus of variations. Many of the articles contained in this book have Profoundly, influenced the development of modern mathematics. Of exceptional value is the article on the equation of diffusion with growing quantity of the substance. Description
This is a set of Petrovskii's selected works. The first volume deals with theory of systems of partial differential equations and is central to the modern general theory of such systems. The classes of elliptic, hyperbolic and parabolic systems are studied here. The second volume deals with his work on algebraic geometry based on the classical works of Harnack and Hilbert written at the close of the 19th century. It contains articles on ordinary and partial differential equations, mathematical physics, probability theory and the theory of functions. Each of the articles is accompanied by the editor's notes. In addition, each article has been studied by modern Russian mathematicians and appears with their commentaries.
