This four-volume reference work, first published in 1899-1903, contains signed articles (most with bibliographies) by an international group of the most significant biblical scholars of the time. The content reflects the advancing higher criticism of the late-19th century. The encyclopaedia remains a classic reference source, often referred to in the secondary literature.
