国立国会図書館では関西館開館を記念して平成１４年１１月、１２月の２回にわたりシンポジウムを開催した。シンポジウムの全体テーマは「図書館新世紀」とし、１１月１６日の第１回は「図書館の再設計」、１２月１４日の第２回は「国際交流と図書館」をテーマとした。本書はこの２回のシンポジウムの講演、討論等を整理したものである。
