西田哲学は、人間西田幾多郎の実人生での苦悩とその超克の足跡とも言われる。たび重なる苦難の中、折々に詠まれた短歌は、哲学者の内面を如実に伝える。思索の深まりは、短歌の形でより端的に表現されることもあった。親族ら四人の回想記を併せて収録。哲学者の生涯をより深く理解するための貴重な証言である。
